"Made in China"

Oriental DreamWorks, the joint venture set up by DreamWorks Animation and a state-backed Chinese consortium, will be the flagship company at a new media center under development in Shanghai's West Bank Media Port.


The local government aims to transform the 47-acre site, located in Xuhui district on the west bank of the Huangpu River, into a landmark cultural center for film and TV production, and digital entertainment.
The media center will also include cinemas, restaurants, bars and theatres
.
They hopes other major shingles would join Oriental DreamWorks at the media center, adding that there had been discussions with Sony Pictures and Hong Kong-based TV company, TVB.


Oriental DreamWorks, formed by DreamWorks Animation and a trio of state-backed orgs, China Media Capital, Shanghai Media Group and Shanghai Alliance Investment, will make animated and live-action content for distribution in China and globally.


The goal is to release one animated film a year from 2016, and two annually after 2018, building on DreamWorks' strength in the region,


China has become a major draw for Hollywood shingles, and DWA, Legendary and Relativity have sought out partnerships in China to produce homegrown fare that can circumvent quota regulations.

MAD 3 outshines Prometheus


 Box Office Report: Madagascar 3 Beats Prometheus
 Family animated tentpole "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" landed at the top of the domestic box office with a stand-out $60.4 million opening this weekend, beating the $50 million scored by Ridley Scott's sci-fi epic "Prometheus."
